Two Seminars at Copper Leaf Crossing Animal Care Village, Ann Arbor, Michigan
Seminar program each day:
8:00 – 12:00 Strengthening & Stretching the Canine Athlete
(Get on the Ball One & Two)
Debbie will cover what every owner or handler of an active, athletic competing dog needs to know - how to keep their dog sound, strong, and staying in the game! She will be covering stretching, strengthening, and conditioning exercises, as well as warm up/cool down routines. Specific concerns/issues of attendees will be addressed.
1:00 – 5:00 Canine Structure Evaluation
Debbie will conduct individual dog evaluations and then provide the particular exercises (potentially with the ball/egg/peanut, etc.) that would most benefit that dog. This will serve to prevent injury or provide rehabilitation exercises/techniques for dogs that have already suffered injury.
Lunch will be provided for those attending a full day seminar.

Certificate Program in
Canine Rehabilitation
Teaching Schedule |
Hi Debbie,
I did want to take this opportunity to thank you again for a wonderful seminar down in Durham NC. It was totally fascinating and I came away feeling so empowered with my new tools to keep my dogs fit and healthy.
Up until now, conditioning has been my major goal with lots of off-lead walks out on the mountain to build their muscle and endurance. I always relied on our veterinary chiropractic / acupuncture visits every six weeks in the hopes I'd catch small problems before they became big problems.
Now I feel that I have some real tools to stop problems from developing in the first place. What was especially neat was that she does all the stretching exercises that you showed us; now I feel I can be doing so much more between visits to carry on her work.
You do a wonderful presentation. I think all my local doggie friends are now really jealous that they missed this!
Thank you again,

Maine Veterinary Referral Center hosts canine rehabilitation event
by Gayle Hickok, Downeast Dog News
November 14th and 15th, the Maine Veterinary Referral Center in Scarborough, Maine, hosted a hallmark event for the clinic—it's first course ever to offer CEU's to area veterinarians, vet tech's and physical therapists.
The subject was canine rehabilitation and the instructor was Deb Gross Saunders. Deb has her Doctorate in Physical Therapy, is a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist, is a staff instructor at the University of Tennessee Canine Rehabilitation Program at Knoxville and is the owner and head therapist of the Wiz of Paws clinic in Conn. Northeast Seminars (www.neseminars.com), a New Hampshire based organization, sponsors these educational opportunities, as well as many others nationally.
Both days were filled with lectures and the opportunity for students to meet different dogs with different diagnoses to then hear how Deb would evaluate and plan out their rehabilitation programs. There was much interest in every case, especially Lady, the Great Dane with HOD disease.
The performance dogs with bicipital tendonitis also received a lot of attention since many in attendance had their own dogs in competition and had experienced similar injuries. Bruce, the GSD who was conservatively managed for partial ACL/meniscal tear for 8 months to successfully avoid surgery, was of great interest and sparked lively debate amongst the orthopedic veterinarians present. He also gave great "drive by" face licks!
Due to the great attendance at the seminar, future classes are in the works, targeting both professionals and the general public. Possible course titles for Jan./Feb/March courses are: Preventative Care of the Dachshund Back, Daily Rehab. for the Osteoarthritic Canine, and Post-op Programs for Knee and Hip Surgery. For more information on these programs please contact Gayle Hickok, Director of Rehabilitation at Maine Veterinary Rehabilitation, at 207-799-3932.

Dear Debbie,
I have a 2 1/2 year old lab that I use to do Dock Dogs with. He has been diagnosed with FCE (fibrocartilagenous emboli - a stroke) and lost total use of his hind legs on March 3, 2009. The worst scare of my life. Since then he has started walking, running and even went off a dock last week just for fun. He still has trouble with knuckling under and has a weak rear.
Just yesterday I told my mom, "I know there has to be something more I can do for Brody to get him back to 100%. I don't want him growing into an old dog before he has to." He has been treated with acupuncture, energy therapy and chiropractic with some progress but nothing long lasting.
Your seminar was just awesome! I had to miss the morning session because I was actually working at Coventry in boarding and Ms. Ruth came over and said I just had to hear your seminar as it could really help my lab.
I felt so good leaving your seminar because I know this will help him. I can not wait to get started. Thank you so much.
Sincerely,
Tracy Williams
• Thank you again for a wonderful seminar last Saturday. I was so looking forward to it and it was certainly worth the wait. I love that you stressed that it is all about the safety and health of your dog - not adding seconds. I'll be keeping an eye out for your next seminars in our area.

• Debbie,
Just a quick note to let you know how much I enjoyed your seminar last weekend in Toledo. It was very interesting and informative and full of common sense ideas. My dogs are enjoying getting on the ball. I also want you to know I am using the ball as a chair at my computer right now.

• Thank you so much for such a great concept! I recommend your ball all the time when people ask how I keep Lance in shape. I tell them to get a BALL and give them your website.
